迎猱meeting wide vibrato

Pinyin: yíng náo

Vibrato and glides

A nao that meets the note from above and presses down, connected and lively.

How it is played

After the note, the finger first rises to meet it and then presses down, up and down in a connected, lively way, as if blending zhuang nao with a change of vibrato; it must be done with feeling.

How it sounds

A flowing, expressive rise and fall.

In the classical handbooks

取音如迎上抑下,連活有情,彷彿撞猱換猱換吟也。

Gist: The note is taken as if meeting from above and pressing down, connected and lively with feeling, as though combining zhuang nao with a change of nao or yin.
