尾声coda
Pinyin: wěi shēng
Terms and marksThe closing passage of a qin piece, usually ending in harmonics.
How it is played
Many pieces have a short closing passage after the main sections, marked “wei sheng” in the score and followed by qu zhong. The coda usually continues the ru man before it, at an easy tempo, and often ends in harmonics so the piece dies away in a lingering ring. Codas vary between editions: compiling Qinpu Xiesheng in the Qing, Zhou Xianzu judged a note that Wuzhizhai Qinpu added to the coda of Liangxiao Yin out of keeping with the piece and removed it.
