掐泼剌三声three alternating qia and bo/la

Pinyin: qiā pō là sān shēng

Right hand, compound

Also written: 搯潑刺三聲

A variant of qia-cuo san sheng: left-hand qia qi alternates with right-hand bo and la, also used as a closing phrase.

How it is played

The same as qia-cuo san sheng, except that the right hand does not play cuo: one qia on the left and one bo on the right, then two qia on the left and one la on the right.

How it sounds

The light qia notes alternate with the full bo and la; the close is crisper than qia-cuo san sheng.

In the classical handbooks

搯潑刺三聲也,兩絃共成八聲也。如前搯撮三聲之法,用左一搯右一潑,左二搯右一刺,此亦結束聲。

Gist: Qia po-la san sheng: eight sounds on two strings. As in qia-cuo san sheng, one qia on the left and one bo on the right, two qia on the left and one la on the right. This too is a closing sound.

亦結聲也,即如前之搯撮三聲彈法:左一搯而右一潑,左二搯右一刺也。

Gist: Also a closing sound, played like the preceding qia-cuo san sheng: one qia on the left with one bo on the right, two qia on the left with one la on the right.
