撇起flick-off (editor mark)
Pinyin: piě qǐ
Left hand, slidingA left-hand sounding mark included in the editor and recorded as the open string; no reliable explanation has been found in the classical handbooks or modern sources.
How it is played
The editor groups pie qi with dai qi and zhua qi, recording it as the left nail flicking the string for its open note. In preparing this entry no clear description of pie qi was found in the left-hand symbols of Qinxue Rumen, in the collected texts of older handbooks, or in current technique guides, so no details of the motion are given here. When transcribing, follow the conventions of the score you are working from.
